"Vicious Scissors" Opens at Milne Library

Milne Library invites the Community to attend the opening of its latest exhibit, "Vicious Scissors," a display of selected pieces created by Dr. Ren Vasiliev, professor and chair of the geography department. The reception will be held on Thursday, November 13,between 5 and 7 pm in Milne 213 and will include a question and answer session with Dr. Vasiliev at 5:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Turning from an academic's observation and mapping of the external world to an artist's internal perception and interpretation through her display of paper and fiber collage, she declares in her artist's statement:

For the enchantment of my angst, I use scissors to remake, reorder, and recast found images. In these artworks, manipulated by the artist's cut, I sometimes make personal order, at other times chaos, but always looking to create assemblages of irony and vertigo. My works are relentless refractions of the familiar. They are twisted glimpses at the face in the mirror we do not recognize.

The exhibition will be shown in the Milne Library Gallery from November 13, 2008, to January 11, 2009. Quixotic, challenging, and above all fun, this exhibit is not to be missed! Please join us on Thursday, November 13th at 5:00 pm.
